Vijay Vaishnavi is Professor Emeritus of Computer Information Systems (Former Board of Advisors Professor of Computer Information Systems and Professor of Computer Science) at Georgia State University. He is Senior Editor Emeritus of MIS Quarterly and is on the editorial boards of a number of other major journals. His current interests are mainly in research, education, and consulting in the area of design science research and innovation. He is also deeply interested in spirituality, particularly in the fusion of science and spirituality.
Dr. Vaishnavi has conducted research in a number of areas that include data structures and algorithms, software engineering, information integration and web mining, and design science research methods. His research has been funded by National Science Foundation (NSF) (through multiple multi-year research grants) as well as by the industry. He has been a consultant to various organizations including IBM, AT&T, and Bell Northern Research in the area of object-oriented modeling and management. He is the author of 150+ publications that include seven books and articles in academic journals and conference proceedings, and co-owns a patent. Dr. Vaishnavi was elected to be an IEEE Fellow in 2001 for “contributions to the theory and practice of software development.” In 2007, he was awarded Lifetime Achievement Award in Design Sciences (DESRIST 2007) for “making significant fundamental contributions in design science research through research, leadership and mentorship.” He has received Fulbright awards in 2004 and 2010. Dr. Vaishnavi received his B.E. with Distinction (and First Position) in Electrical Engineering from NIT Srinagar, M.Tech. as well as Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kanpur, and was a postdoctoral fellow in Computer Science at McMaster University for two years.
